“O.K., my child has ADHD, so what do we do about it?”
Unfortunately, behaviors that stem from AD/HD are often misunderstood. Even some teachers do not understand that their students do not get up in the morning saying, “I’m going to make my teachers mad today.” On the contrary, accommodations must be made in school, in tutoring, and at home.
Accommodations in the tutoring session include:
· A rewards system for each part of a tutoring sessions
· Realistic expectations
· Minimum of distractions
· Emphasis on social problem solving
In addition, the tutor must understand attention issues, be able to keep the child engaged, and have empathy.
